TWO WEEKS ARE TWICE AS GOOD AS ONE!
Over the years we have received many requests to expand what the school offers and countless additions have been made. We have run out of time and space! Our new two-week school is bigger and better than ever. Students attending for two weeks will receive a substantial discount on both tuition AND hotel accommodations at the Silver Star Club Resort.
Registering for Week 2 allows students to have a full day of instruction, or gives them the option of spending afternoons taking one of our fantastic specialty courses:
• Piobaireachd with Glenfiddich Champion Jack Lee
• Kitchen Piping with Clasp winner Stuart Liddell
• Compositions with Andrew Douglas, one of the world’s most creative pipers
• Bellows and smallpipes with expert Fin Moore (This is available either full- or part-time.)
Week 2 is going to have a greater focus on one-on-one instruction for pipers, drummers and Highland dancers. Music packages will vary each week, and no matter which week you come, you’ll have top-level instruction with Jack Lee, Reid Maxwell, Colleen Rintamaki, Steven McWhirter, Stuart Liddell and others!

To apply, please send an email to Piping Hot Summer Drummer telling us why you are applying and what receiving this scholarship would mean to you.
2) The Arran Campbell Memorial Scholarship was created in honour of the late Arran Campbell. This scholarship honours the request of Arran's family by awarding a full tuition scholarship to a drumming student resident in British Columbia. To apply for this please send an email to Piping Hot Summer Drummer.
The deadline for scholarship applications is May 1, 2008. |
TEACHING PROGRAM: WHAT TO EXPECT
All participants receive six and a half hours of formal instruction each day. Structured according to skill level and interest, classes cover basic to advanced exercises, practice technique for solo players and bands, instrument maintenance and tuning, and discussion of everything from music theory and composition to dress and deportment. As always, the school has instructors on hand for the special needs and slower pace of beginners.

Evening Workshops Special Pass for Non-Students
Formal classes end at 5:00 p.m., and we offer many terrific evening workshops to complement your daily studies. Evening classes include sessions for bellows pipes, whistles, step-dancing, canntaireachd, Highland dance for pipe band musicians and great lectures with Q&A with some of
the world’s best pipe band and solo musicians! All evening sessions are open to friends and family, as well as registered students. All proceeds from these events and the ceilidh go to the PHSD scholarship fund.
Personal Instruction
While youre here, youll get the chance to work one-on-one with instructors. PHSD provides opportunities for working on solo competition tunes and scores, learning new piobaireachds, or just getting advice on any aspect of your piping, drumming or dancing.
Inspiration: Recital and Ceilidh

The Sunday night recital to open the week features some of the worlds premier, prize-winning soloists, along with the four-time World Champion SFU Pipe Band. Thursday night, its your turn! The student ceilidh performances are always a highlight of the school. This is followed by an informal but amazing student and instructor ceilidh.
Massed Band

Join us for a fitting and spectacular conclusion to the school, as over 250 musicians and dancers parade through the resort village of Silver Star in the summer sun! It's now possible to watch the massed band live on the mountain's web cam!
