The SFU Pipe Band has released Part 1 of a two part mini-documentary on their journey to capturing their first World Championship in 1995.

Released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their achievement, Part 1 chronicles the daring decision by the band to compete at the 1995 Scottish Pipe Band Championships to attempt to secure an improved place in the order of play for the World Championships seven weeks later.

It includes reminiscences by the band leaders and some players of the 1995 band: Pipe Major Terry Lee, Pipe Sergeant Jack Lee, Lead Drummer Reid Maxwell, and pipers Bonnie Bevan, Derek Milloy, and Dani Millar. Never before published archival video and pictures are used extensively throughout the mini-documentary.

Producer and Narrator Mike Chisholm, a seasoned communications professional with an extensive TV reporting career, along with a technical team of all band members Richard Gillies, Jamie Kubasiewicz, Alastair Lee, and Rob MacNeil, prepared the two-part mini-documentary. Community newspaper reporter Janis Cleugh assisted with the transcriptions of the interviews.

Part 1 finishes with a link to the band's full performance at the 1995 Scottish Championships, which earned them third place and set the stage for the dramatic events at the World Championships that August.

Watch for Part 2 coming in August.
